The Remarkable Herb Rhodiola rosea

by essentialhealth on December 21, 2011

Recently Energetix launched a new product, one all of us have been very excited about.  It’s called Phyto-B Complex. Of course there are lots of B-Complex vitamin supplements on the market, but this one stands out for its absorbability and multi-forms of B vitamins.

Now, having highly assimilable B vitamins can be a huge boost to virtually anyone’s health, but there is something else that makes this product unique and intriguing.  The formulation exists in a base of Rhodiola rosea, one of the most remarkable plant substances to come to light in recent decades.

essential healthcare phyto b complexRhodiola rosea is considered a second-generation adaptogen.  Adaptogens are substances that exert a wide range of helpful influences to counteract stress-based conditions, low energy, compromised endurance and disrupted sleep rhythms. Adaptogens often work, in part, by stimulating immune response and supporting the central nervous system.  Various Energetix products could be classified as adaptogens, having a wide variety of applications, but this one stands out for its breadth of qualities.

Rhodiola rosea (“Golden Root” or “Rose Root”) is reputed to do all of what adaptogens do with virtually no evident toxicity or undesirable side effects, unlike certain other adaptogenic substances.  No wonder it has stimulated so much in the way of research and discussion!  Various studies1 have shown effectiveness in:

  • Boosting stamina and endurance
  • Helping to restore mental alertness or wakefulness when experiencing fatigue or drowsiness
  • Supporting the immune system
  • Improving absentmindedness
  • Assisting with neurotransmitter levels and central nervous system activity
  • Maintaining a normal cholesterol level
  • Relieving occasional sleeplessness
  • Increasing sexual desire and performance
  • Maintaining healthy lung function
  • Reducing depression/anxiety
  • Relieving occasional headaches
  • Supporting the normal metabolism of carbohydrates and fats

You can see why there has been such an active buzz about this Russian plant extract!  If you’re interested to discover more in the way of detail and research, just search for “Rhodiola rosea research” and you’ll find plenty to fill out what I’ve summarized here.

To recap, it appears that Rhodiola rosea is an anti-stress boon.  Given the levels of stress most of us live under, including practitioners, here is a product that could be well worth adding to your daily routine.

Self-Determination Theory: Creating Long-Lasting Change

November 8, 2011

A long-standing central desire of mine is to help my fellows live healthier, happier lives. I do my best to center my words, my work and my living on the theme of life enhancement, yet I am often surprised by how rarely people tend to act on what they know they need to do to live healthier, more balanced lives. A circuit breaker [...]

November 8, 2011

I came across three rules today that provide effective guidance for a productive life: Rule #1: Success is an option. Rule #2: Failure to accomplish a goal is a last resort. Rule #3: Failure to give your very best is never an option. Countless human beings have lived out their lives never believing that success [...]

November 8, 2011

First, let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of homeopathy in all its forms. Growing up, Pulsitilla was my remedy and just giving you that information probably tells you more than I would like about the personality and profile of my younger self. I am happy to say, I grew out [...]

Taking Back the Meaning of Prevention

November 8, 2011

I expect I’m not the only one who has experienced some frustration with the common use of the word “prevention” as related to health matters. With burgeoning lifestyle-related diseases and the explosion in so called “health care costs” (disease-care costs?) that accompany this situation, with thousands of studies showing the efficacy of safe, natural alternatives [...]

Placebos, Perception and Subtlety

November 8, 2011

I heard an interesting segment on NPR the other day entitled “The Mysterious Healing Power of Placebos.” (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=126802142). Jennifer Ludden interviews two guests: the first a neurosurgeon from Washington D.C. and the second, a doctor and the Director of Psychiatric Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, who both note the power of the placebo effect. Can we eat to starve cancer?

November 8, 2011

The sooner you make a change when there is a deviation in life the more likely you are to avoid dangerous repercussions. When you are driving, for instance, you make constant small adjustments to stay between the lines. Wait too long to make the adjustment and you are likely to swerve off the road, hit [...]

Restoring Balance in a Polarized World

November 8, 2011

Where there is prolonged imbalance there tends to be polarization. In the physical body an energetic and biochemical imbalances result in organ systems that are either overactive and hot (hyper) or under-active and cold. In airplanes overly weighted aft of the center of gravity, instability results making the airplane unsafe. So it is with our [...]
